On the 3rd of September 2020, we officially launched the Irish Nutrient Sustainability Platform online with a webinar featuring international speakers discussing nutrient sustainability and the role a Nutrient Platform can play in bringing together a broad range of stakeholders and gaining consensus.
Vincent O’Flaherty (NUIG) opened the session by giving an update on the Irish Nutrient Sustainability Platform and the work done to date.
Chris Thornton from the European Sustainable Phosphorus Platform gave an insight into the work the ESPP does, and how a nutrient platform can provide a safe space for discussions to take place and bring about consensus.
Ludwig Hermann from the European Sustainable Phosphorus Platform followed with an overview of the new EU Fertiliser Regulations and how other EU Countries have transitioned to a recycled nutrient model.
Patrick Barrett (DAFM) gave an overview of the Circular Bioeconomy and Nutrients in Ireland, and EU Green Deal Funding Opportunities. A panel discussion follows chaired by Ian Marshall (QUB) where nutrient sustainability on the Island of Ireland was discussed and how a nutrient platform can drive the agenda forward.
